What is the Te Tai Rāwhiti Investment plan?

Te Mātāuru ki Te Tai Rāwhiti is the plan for how Te Mātāwai will be investing
in te reo Māori revitalisation in the Te Tai Rāwhiti rohe, broadly encompassing
Ngāti Porou, Te Aitanga a Māhaki, Rongowhakaata, Ngāi Tāmanuhiri, Ngāti
Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine and Rangitāne.

How was the plan developed?

The Te Tai Rāwhiti Investment Plan was developed by a core group of te reo Māori advocates across the wider Te Tai Rāwhiti region including representatives from Ngāti Porou, Te Aitanga a Māhaki, Rongowhakaata, Ngāi Tāmanuhiri, Ngāti Rākaipaaka, Ngāti Kahungunu, Rangitāne, Heretaunga Tamatea and Ngāti Pāhauwera.  The plan aligns with the Maihi Māori with an overall strategy for reo revitalisation in homes and communities.

Who is responsible for the Te Tai Rāwhiti Investment plan?

Te Pae Motuhake mō te Tai Rāwhiti (Te Tai Rāwhiti Cluster Panel), representing iwi and Māori will monitor the plan alongside Te Mātāwai.  All Māori language stakeholders within Te Tai Rāwhiti and iwi listed in the Te Tai Rāwhiti cluster of iwi have a direct interest in the implementation of the plan.

We want to see and hear te reo Māori being used naturally and widely in communities throughout Te Tai Rāwhiti.  We want to promote te reo Māori as a nurturing first language in the home and in communities.

What will we see?

A growth in Māori speaking whānau/households; more whānau and communities with knowledge of language planning and its benefits; more opportunities to use Māori language in community settings; more resources to support Māori language being used in the home and in the community.

• kia wātea, kia mārama, kia tōkeke ngā tukanga / accessible, transparent and fair processes
• kia hāngai ki ngā hiahia o ngā iwi / targets iwi-driven aspirations
• kia tipu te reo, kia ora te reo, kia whanake te reo / language growth, sustainability and development
