Te Mātāwai | Kia ūkaipō anō te reo.
Te Mātāwai leads Māori language revitalisation, empowering iwi Māori to restore te reo as a nurturing first language in homes and communities.
We were established by Te Ture mō Te Reo Māori 2016(external link) and utilise partnership(external link), research(external link) and investment(external link) to support whānau, hapori, and iwi with their language aspirations.
Our long-term vision for “Kia ūkaipō anō te reo” is illustrated by a waka journey to Hawaiki Mokopuna(external link). Hawaiki Mokopuna is described as a time and place where te reo Māori is safe and intergenerational transmission is uninterrupted.
Watch our Takahia tō Ara te reo Māori case study videos(external link) and experience the revival as whānau embrace te reo across generations and communities.
