Investment Priorities

  • Understanding – increasing our understanding and awareness about language revitalisation throughout Te Tai Tonga.
  • Engagement – engaging our people in language revitalisation throughout Te Tai Tonga. 
  • Collaboration – collaborating more to realise shared language revitalisation aspirations.
  • Naturalisation – hearing our language everywhere by expanding immersion language domains. 
  • Acceleration – increasing proficiency and confidence by championing innovative language learning strategies. 

Intended Outcomes

  • increased understanding of the benefits of language planning.
  • more active language plans in place
  • more collaboration around promotion, planning and providing opportunities for language planning and activities
  • more opportunities to accelerate engagement through language learning and language awareness
  • more iwi, hapū, marae, whānau and community-based opportunities to learn te reo
  • strong language champions and role models are identified and supported
  • increased usage within homes, marae and communities
  • increased immersion setting and activities – iwi, marae, whānau, kaupapa
  • increased access to, including generation-targeted and reo ā-iwi focused, resources and learning opportunities
