New Te Mātāwai Acting CE announced

Toko Kapea (Ngāti Apa ki Rangitīkei, Taranaki Whānui, Te Ātihaunui-a-Pāpārangi, Ngāpuhi) has been appointed as the new Tumu Whakarae Kairīwhi/ Acting CE at Te Mātāwai.
He brings extensive governance experience, and is a director of Tū Partners Limited which specialises in commercial law, business consulting and Māori economic development.

“Having already worked with Te Mātāwai on some of its policies and strategy, I look forward to working alongside the Board and kaimahi to help progress its important goals for te reo Māori,” Toko says.
Te Mātāwai co-chairs, Brenda Soutar and Mātai Smith, welcomes Toko and says he will play a key strategic role until a permanent CE is recruited in the New Year.

“He has a wide raft of expertise including in governance, business and Treaty settlements,” says Te Mātāwai Hoa-Toihau, Brenda Soutar.
The Board would also like to acknowledge Karl Smith, for stepping up as Tumu Whakarae Kairīwhi this year and for his ongoing commitment to kaupapa Māori which has been evident throughout his career. Karl will continue at Te Mātāwai as Corporate Services Manager.
